The science faculty was established when the college opened in 1968. The department was formed in 1984 to advance the scientific knowledge of Zoology. The Rayat Shikshan Sanstha given permission to offer subject Zoology in order to meet scientific needs and broaden the horizons of rural students studying life science. As a result, the Department of Zoology was the first to be founded within the jurisdiction of Shivaji University in Kolhapur.

The department's dedication to scientific advancement is evident through its precisely curated museum, which showcases 280 animal specimens of which Non- chordate – 113, Chordates – 166, Stuffed animals – 07. Additionally, the department accommodates a dedicated library. Furthermore, the short term course Vermicomposting conducted every year. The department actively contributes to the community by delivering lectures on Vermicomposting to local farmers and school students in the tehsil.

Our research laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge technology to support advanced scientific investigations. We offer a comprehensive suite of instruments including Microscopes, Spectrophotometer, Cooling Centrifuge, Microtome, Incubator, Hot Air Oven, field photography units featuring advanced telephoto lenses and a research microscope equipped with a trinocular head. Additionally, our laboratory is fully equipped for molecular research, boasting state-of-the-art instruments such as horizontal and vertical gel electrophoresis setups complete with a power pack, a trans-illuminator, and a micro-centrifuge. With a steadfast dedication to pioneering research, this department has contributed significantly to the scientific community, resulting in numerous published research papers authored by our esteemed faculty members.
